As a service provider, you might recognice this: many, or even most of your end-customers are already on rung one of the call recording ladder. They have basic recording, compliance-grade capture, retained and encrypted. It does what it needs to do. And it generates about as much margin on your bottom line as a feature that comes bundled in a deal.
That's where most of users have stayed. Not because there's no upgrades, but because no one has shown them what the view looks like from higher up.
That's the conversation this blog is about.
Dstny Call Recording Intelligence runs across four tiers. Foundation, Plus, Advanced, and Ultimate. The easiest way to understand them isn't as product packages. It's as four different answers to the same question: what do you want to do with your recorded calls?
Foundation answers: keep the calls. Compliance-grade recording, retained for as long as regulation requires, encrypted, with a full audit trail. This is where almost every customer starts, and where most stay. It satisfies the minimum requirement. It generates modest, predictable margin, and because it's largely commoditised, it's under constant price pressure.
Plus answers: keep the right calls. Selective recording lets supervisors flag specific calls for review without capturing everything. It's a light quality layer and a step up from pure compliance into early-stage oversight. It's also the first rung where recording starts to feel like a tool rather than a box to tick.
Advanced answers: learn from calls. Call scoring, flagging and structured coaching. Here supervisors are moving from gut instinct to evidence. At this tier, the recorded call stops being an archive entry and starts being a performance input. QA programmes that used to run on spreadsheets and spot checks get replaced with something repeatable and measurable. This is where the margin starts to look different.
Ultimate answers: let the data surface what you'd miss. AI-driven review analyses calls at a scale and consistency no human reviewer can match. AI flagging sentiment shifts, identifying complaints before they escalate, evaluating calls against quality criteria automatically. At the top of the ladder, customers aren't just reviewing their calls. They're using them to run the business better.
Foundation and Plus sit in a part of the market where pricing is compressed and differentiation is usually hard. Almost every provider offers something in this space. The commercial conversation at these tiers is mostly about cost and convenience.
Advanced and Ultimate are different. A customer running structured review across their recorded conversations is getting something they can't easily replace, can't easily replicate with a third-party tool, and can't easily move away from without disrupting a workflow that's become part of how they operate.
That's the margin profile partners should be aiming for. A Voice seat with Foundation recording generates one level of recurring revenue. The same seat at Advanced or Ultimate generates significantly more, and the customer is substantially harder to lose.
The ARPU gap between an unmonetised recording base and a fully activated one is measurable. It's the difference between a line item and a revenue relationship.
The practical point for SP partners isn't to sell Ultimate on day one. It's to understand where each active Call Recording account currently sits and what the natural next step looks like from there.
A customer on Foundation who runs a contact centre is already a candidate for Advance. They have the calls, they have the need, and someone in their business is probably doing quality review manually right now. The upgrade conversation is a short one: "You're already recording everything. Do you want to start doing something with it?"
A customer at Plus who's seen the value of selective review is already partway to Advanced. The data habit is established and the step up is adding structure to what they're already doing informally.
Each tier is a conversation, not just a proposal. And each conversation starts from where the customer already is, not from where you'd like them to be.
